Stop using ‘genderqueer’ to mean ‘DFAB’ and only including it in lists like ‘transmasculine, genderqueer, boi’. It also belongs on lists like ‘transfeminine, genderqueer, trans women’. Probably more-so on lists that don’t associate it at all with one binary category or the other (DFAB or DMAB).
Also, stop using ‘androgynous fashion’ to mean ‘DFAB and wearing menswear’. I mean, you probably look really cute in that blazer, but … yo. I look more androgynous when I wear earrings than when I don’t. I look more androgynous when I wear tight shirts or camis than when I don’t. I look more androgynous when I wear makeup than when I don’t.
When I wear a blazer, I look like a fucking dude.
Don’t universalize your specific narrative into a grand narrative. It erases folks.

"oh, please. you can’t REALLY be in a great mood. there are people out there who just got raises. people just got married. people are being reunited with their families right now. how dare you say you’re happy."
“None of those CEOs, owners, or stockholders earned their success and money if they had to exploit and steal from their workers to do it. Wal-Mart can, and should, pay its lowest rung workers better. Only when they have done that should those “leaders” start accumulating bonuses and profits for themselves.”—StCarlyon on Hundreds of protests planned to mark Black Friday (via aljazeeraamerica)
You kids know about this, sure. But you don’t really know.
There was no way to learn all the things you should have learned. And when you were alone, you were really really alone.
There was no info in the school library about sexuality or gender identity, about eating disorders and aspergers and depression and social anxiety, or anything to tell you that other people had these problems too, that it wasn’t just you being a fundamental failure as a human being.
If you weren’t living in a major metropolitan area there was no community for you. There was just church events and Wal-mart, and parties at people’s houses you weren’t invited to because everyone hated you, and driving around aimlessly on country roads, and that was your options for Saturday night, for every night. There was no goth club. There was no gay-straight alliance. There was no safe place for freaks and geeks except hiding in our houses not knowing how to find each other.
And maybe you got out of some hell-hole as soon as you were old enough, and even when you went somewhere better you found out that you never learned how to talk to people, you didn’t know how to go to a gay bar on your own or how to find an anime club or where you might learn how to play tabletop RPGs or any kind of social activity you would have any hope of being comfortable with, and now this prison of isolation you grew up in was going to last you the rest of your life.
Maybe the internet got here too late for you, and this hole in your heart was never going to be filled.
But that’s not going to happen to you kids. I’m glad.
The Internet age is actually GOOD
This is actually a lot of why I blog. For all the folks out there who resemble my younger self.
Important thing to remember for the people whpo pretends that everyone was so much more connected before internet and stuff like that.
Shout out to all the closeted LGBT people who have to return to unsafe family environments this season. Remember that there is nothing wrong with you and that no, you are not a hypocrite for loving the people who raised you despite the things they have done to hurt you. Above all remember that you will always have friends who support you even if your family does not.
“Psychologists have found that people’s belief in a just world helps explain how they react to innocent victims of negative life circumstances. People become cognitively frustrated when presented with stories of victims who suffer through little fault of their own. They can deal with this frustration in two ways: they can conclude that the world is an unjust place, or they can decide that the victim is somehow to blame. Most people reconcile their psychological distress by blaming the victim. Even when we know that suffering is undeserved, it is psychologically easier to blame the victim rather than give up the idea that the world is basically fair.”—
This is also referred to as The Just World Fallacy. If the world is “good and just,” then bad things must only happen to people who “deserved it or caused it.” Except the world is not good and just. And despite individual people choosing to be good and/or just, structures, institutions and systems remain corrupt overall. Primarily through the media is the idea that bad only happens to those who deserve suffering conveyed. Add this to the manifestations of oppression based on gender, race, class, nationality, citizenship, sexual orientation, size, etc. and things like rape culture for example, thrive. And even ideologies that appear “harmless” to some people like prosperity gospel, positivity culture, the law of attraction and American exceptionalism are based on ignoring systemic inequality and focusing on exceptional cases. They stand firm in this particular fallacy.
See, it requires quite a bit from a person to be willing to challenge the world as is. It is psychologically, emotionally and intellectually easier to victim blame. It also helps people protect their psyches from the thought that something bad could happen to them or worse, that they are the causes of those bad things happening to others.
Still…it’s unacceptable. Victim blaming = unacceptable. The right thing to do is listen and support victims/survivors of anything and the oppressed of any form of oppression and work to deconstruct the structures, institutions and systems that make it possible. On an individual level, it requires accountability.
“First, there is no naturalized gendered body. All of our bodies are modified with regard to gender, whether we seek out surgery or take hormones or not. All of us engage in or have engaged in processes of gender body modification (diets, shaving, exercise regimes, clothing choices, vitamins, birth control. etc) that alter our bodies,
just as we’ve all been subjected to gender related processes that altered our bodies (being fed differently because of our gender, being given or denied proper medical care because of our gender, using dangerous products that are on the market only because of their relationship to gender norms, etc). The isolating of only some of these processes for critique, while ignoring others, is a classic exercise in domination. To see trans body alteration as participating and furthering binary gender, to put trans people’s gender practices under a microscope while maintaining blindness to more familiar and traditional, but no less active and important gender practices of non-trans people, is exactly what the transphobic medical establishment has always done.”—
“For private business prison labor is like a pot of gold. No strikes. No union organizing. No health benefits, unemployment insurance, or workers’ compensation to pay. No language barriers, as in foreign countries. New leviathan prisons are being built on thousands of eerie acres of factories inside the walls. Prisoners do data entry for Chevron, make telephone reservations for TWA, raise hogs, shovel manure, and make circuit boards, limosines, waterbeds, and lingerie for Victoria’s Secret, all at a fraction of the cost of ‘free labor’.”—

!!!!!!!!!!!! if you don’t know about this kind of shit, you need to !!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone! My name is Donnie and I’m in a bit of a financial hellhole at the moment.
My significant other and I recently moved out of our old apartment, due to it being an unsafe environment. We thought we had a subletter lined up for December, however, they just backed out with less than a week before rent is due. Because of this, we’re going to have to somehow pay rent for the old apartment, which will total around $500 each, on top of our current rent.
On top of all this, I’m in the process of finishing up student teaching, which has been a very turbulent process due to our lack of housing for at least a month until we found our new apartment. My focus on my education has forced me to not be able to work and I will not be able to go back to my job until January at the earliest. I’m hoping that we will have at least one subletter at that point and will not have to make a frantic post like this again.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much to offer other than my gratitude. This money will be going toward making sure that my significant other and I can officially remove ourselves mentally and financially from the toxic environment we were in. Thank you very, very much for even taking the time to read this post! If you’re interested, you can donate here via Paypal.
Hi, I was wondering if you’d be willing to help me with something- my friend, a black trans woman, is having trouble finding somewhere to stay due to being disowned by her mother. She is hoping to continue attending college in Rochester and is looking for a job but…
"Secular Woman members have teamed up to present a petition opposing the transphobic actions of Cathy Brennan’s Gender Identity Watch. She and her group forward an agenda that is abusive and harmful to transgender women. Their tactics include targeting named individuals. "
This is tumblr, I most likely don’t have to tell you who Cathy Brennan is. She is responsible for the harassment and doxxing of many transgender individuals. This goes beyond simply trolling someone online, doxxing trans people puts their lives in danger.
We can’t let this continue, and this is one more angle to come at her from. Don’t scroll past, we need every signature we can get so please sign this and share, signal boost on tumblr on twitter on facebook, plaster this where ever you can. Do not let her continue to needlessly endanger innocent lives.
My parents and I were watching the Hobbit but then they both fell asleep so I stopped the movie and started Return of the King about halfway through and when my dad woke up he just looked at me with this horrified expression and whispered what day is it?
that some schools and parents are so interested in raising “normal, healthy” children but don’t talk about the importance of raising compassionate children who care about their place in the world and are raised to look after each other and to understand that 100% health and ability isn’t the baseline for everybody very interesting
