I’ve been forced to explain homosexuality to my kids (aged 3 and 4) because their uncle is gay. This incredibly difficult and traumatic experience went as follows:

Child: Why does Uncle Bob go everywhere with Pete?
Me: Because they’re in love, just like Mummy and Daddy are.
Child: Oh. Can I have a biscuit?

We’re all scarred for life. Scarred, I tell you.

Reminds me of a dicussion that a disabled woman and myself had with too children (actually older than those described on top) Yes it was as much traumatizing.

I think a lot of people project their on bigotry on children who actually are quite open about these subjects.

(I hope I’m not being appropriative here, of course, the people who says “What about the children?” to censor the mere mention of the existence of gay people don’t go to the same extent usually to censor the existence of disabled people, but there is still this idea, that they shouldn’t be too comfronted to us, parents who don’t wants their children in the same classes as us and so on.)
