Hey.

So this is a movie about transgender people, that has (from the images) at least 4/5 of the main people as TPoC (and 3/5 are Black).

Let’s boost the fuck out of this and see if we can’t get them the money for this doc.

The “Assigned Sex” Documentary Project:

  • Identifies problems within the transgender community
  • Develops awareness and empathy for individuals that don’t conform to the male/female gender binary
  • Takes action to end discrimination against those that vary from culturally defined gender roles
  • Identifies support resources for transgender individuals that are located within New York City

Signal. Fucking. Boost.

Only 48 hours to go (as of Friday evening) and they still need $1k. Come on people!

Oh, apparently there’s still

77 minutes left, If I understand well they already reached their goal, but a little more probably wouldn’t hurt !!!!!
Homeless trans person in URGENT need of place(s) to stay [please signal boost]

metapianycist:

Until today, I thought I had found a safe place to stay while I searched for a job in New York City. I had been staying with my best friend, but as of today, I have been kicked out of his apartment by his housemate—my best friend is only a subletter, so he has to obey whatever the actual tenant says regarding guests.

Unless I find a new place to go, I will be forced out of my aunt’s apartment tomorrow and made to go back to my mother’s apartment. My relatives are very poor and cannot house me, and my mother’s abuse is the reason why I have PTSD. Staying by my mother’s house makes me dissociative, suicidal and unable to search for jobs.

I have already tried to contact people through the Trans Housing Network, which resulted in either no response or an affirmative response followed by retracting of that offer. I need a safe place to stay until I have a job and my own apartment. I can cook for myself and can pay to feed myself. I am good at washing dishes and organizing things. I just really need a safe place from which to search for jobs and apartments.

Since I am not certain of what internet access I will have over the next day, please send housing offers to my partner, lunasspecto. Do not contact him unless you are offering a couch or an air mattress to me.

What? Metapianycist is homeless???

Voting While Trans

transaurus-rex:

Transgender people, the majority of whom have never had problems voting in the past, may now lose their right to vote due to dozens of new voter suppression laws. Over 25,000 transgender people could have their voting rights taken away. In response to these dubious new laws, we have released two resources to help transgender people reclaim their voting rights.

Definitely take a look at this website if you’re eligible to vote this upcoming election! It’s extremely important, considering that Romney will literally try to take away our basic human and legal rights. Spread this around as well so your trans* followers can see it.

Oh!! This is terrible… SIGNAL BOOST EVERYONE

Argentina JUST PASSED a groundbreaking gender identity bill!!!
From now on, people will be able to change the name and gender on their ID without needing psychiatric permission or any body modifications. Furthermore, anyone who does want hormones or surgery will be able to access them for free through the public and private health system.
It was passed unanimously today by the Senate :-D

OK this has got me really emotional. This is fucking beautiful. Other countries take note. Oh gosh this is just the best thing I’ve had on my dash all day.

!!!

Yes, I’m very late reblogging this, but this is awesome!

I should probably update Tumblr about how/what I’m doing (or not doing) right now, but I’m putting that aside because a person who’s very important to me is in a very bad place, in a literal sense, and I’m hoping somebody can give him a safer place to live for a while, so he (and I) can have a better chance of not feeling like shit. Despite various efforts to be anywhere else after receiving his philosophy degree, metapianycist is in his parents’ house. I was able to convince my father let him stay here with me at his house for a week in May, but I doubt I’ll pull it off again, and his few friends in New York cannot have guests for various reasons. The fact that metapiancyist is at his parents’ house is really bad, because:

  • His sister has a history of violence toward him and a creepy boyfriend who interrogates him about what it’s like to be trans, and his mother and sister both expect him to be open toward his sister and completely trusting of her.
  • The food he can access there consists mainly of Pop-Tarts, instant ramen, and the like.
  • He has to hide his antidepressants and might have to stop taking them if they were discovered.
  • Sleeping in his mother’s room (as he doesn’t have his own) means he has very little privacy, though she sleeps either in the living room or at a different time of day, and she vocally disapproves of everything about his life.
  • His mother forces him to attend family gatherings that make him highly uncomfortable, and at one of these he is going to meet his vehemently heterosexist aunt who is the only person in the family who does not yet know he is trans (because nobody feels like telling her).
  • His father seems to be resentful of everyone in the house, but apparently has nowhere else to live.
  • Whenever he leaves the house to access the Internet, take a walk, and get away from his relatives, he faces harassment from random people on the street, because his parents live in a horrible town.
  • He has no friends in the immediate area.

He is currently trying to get a job somewhere in New York city, which is about twenty minutes from where he is by bus/train, but he has difficulty approaching the application process as an autistic person, and employment prospects for autistic trans people with depression is significantly lower than the average. In the meantime, he has $60 total and no way of earning more money.

If anyone has any space to offer or any job leads (especially in New York City or the immediate area), they should either respond to this post or contact metapianycist through Tumblr.

Also, I hope a few of you will consider reblogging this, as I have only 76 followers.

I know some’a’y’all are new yorkish.

Synopsis:
Approaching his 30’s, Passion, a black trans musician two years into his medical transition, juggles his newfound identity as a black male and the societal expectations that come along with it. Though him and his ska band enjoy local success in Oakland, Ca, Passion is discontent with remaining local and wants to extend the band’s fame beyond the bay area. However, his best friend and band mate, Shields, cannot fully accept his transition which heavily affects the success of the group as he constantly pressures Passion into living stealth and adopting a misogynist demeanor. Afraid of ruining the chances of success for his band and feeling unsure of his own masculinity, Passion begrudgingly begins to closet himself. When he encounters a local queer activist named Uni that reminds him of the beauty of gender fluidity, it propels him to take action in his career as a musician, reconsider his friendship with Shields, and openly embrace his trans identity and non-traditional expression of masculinity.

If, when confronted with raw, undiluted trans rage, a cis person suddenly switches teams, makes it about themselves, and doesn’t bother to understand where that anger is coming from, what it means, what it represents, and how it’s intended—they are a shitty ally.

[Content Note: Cissexist Harassment, Nonconsensual Outing] Important Story for UK Trans People (and LGB allies)

fuckyeahgenderstudies:

fuckyeahftms:

Some people who keep up with current trans issues may know that an unknown trans man from the UK recently gave birth to a child biologically. It was reported in the Sunday Times newspaper after a journalist got hold of some information from the Beaumont Society.

If the man in question hasn’t stepped forward by now, then he probably doesn’t even want to be identified or talked to about this issue. However, this hasn’t stopped the press, and this anonymous man is now currently being subjected to a horrific, privacy-invading witch hunt by the UK tabloids.

The tabloids have reportedly been hounding trans organizations and high-profile trans people for information on the man’s identity and whereabouts.

The press claim that it is “in the public interest” that this man be identified to the wider public. However, it stands to reason that all they are probably looking for is a sensational story. This is evident by the fact that they obviously have no regard at all for this man’s right to privacy and anonymity.

The interim editor of the tabloid newspaper the Sun has also made some utterly deplorable comments, implying that the trans man should be exposed to the public because of “issues” with NHS funding of our treatment, the “welfare” of the child, and the fact that he could “turn out to be a serial killer”. No, REALLY. That’s the excuse they’re using for trying to force out a vulnerable person into the public eye and potentially putting them at serious risk of discrimination and violence.

What it amounts to is blatant prejudice, and the view that trans people are public property that have no right to their own privacy.

The Sun is acting disgustingly and hypocritically. Just last week, Helen Belcher of Trans Media Watch was invited to speak at the Leveson Inquiry into Press Standards, about the appalling way the press have treated transgender people. The Sun’s Managing Director spoke out in defense of the press, saying that they would endeavour to “mend their ways” when it comes to media coverage of transgender affairs. However, this seems now to be empty words and that the Sun has no intention of treating us any better than they did before.

Offering a cash reward to the public for the outing of a trans person is absolutely revolting, inexcusable and unacceptable.

If anyone living in the UK knows this man and is approached by a member of the media, or really ANYONE inquiring about the story (seeing as the tabloid media are known for using underhand tactics like hacking, stalking and undercover investigation) I urge you: TELL THEM NOTHING. Don’t say a word. You will be protecting a vulnerable person from potentially serious harm.

If you want more information, please read this article, from Pink News, as it has exclusive comments from the Sun editor and information about the ongoing Leveson Inquiry into Press Standards. If you are from the UK, I also please urge you to contact the Leveson Inquiry and also the Press Complaints Commission about this. Their contact information can be found on both websites.

Thanks for reading and spread the word. This horrible violation of privacy must not stand.

That is some fucked up shit.

Definitely going to be registering my complaints with the PCC and Leveson Inquiry.
